MeGregor will look to make an emphatic return to the Octagon while Poirier will look to avenge his 2014 loss.
The UFC has officially began the rollout for UFC 257 and the return of Conor McGregor. The MMA banner shared the trailer for the January 23rd event in which Dustin Poirier will aim to avenge his 2014 loss to a then ascending star in Conor McGregor.
The lightweight face-off holds lots of implications for the dynamic lightweight division considering the recent retirement of the pound-for-pound king of the weight class in Khabib Nurmagomedov. With the likes of Justin Gaethje, Rafael Dos Anjos, and Charles Oliveria’s win over El Cucuy Tony Ferguson, this run-back could really shake up the division.
The first time the two met it took all of two minutes for McGregor to dispose of Poirier. However, in the years since their scrap, The Diamond has tallied important wins over divisional mainstays including Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez, Anthony Pettis, Dan Hooker, and a huge victory over UFC star Max Holloway.
Poirier will look to avenge his loss and continue his climb in the division while Conor will look to assert that their first tango was no fluke. As one of combat sports’ most bankable names, McGregor’s return makes UFC 257 a hell of a way to begin the calendar of events.
