The three-day event will span a various venues and include live panels, exclusive premieres, watch parties, games, giveaways, and more.
Adult Swim is celebrating all things linked to the network with a three-day Block Party in Philadelphia, PA set for August 5th through 7th. The full festival of programming will feature live panels, exclusive premieres, watch parties, and various performances from a diverse roster of artists topped by heavyweights including the live return of Dethklok and a performance from network staples, Run the Jewels.
The festival will also feature three live panels dedicated to some of the network’s most beloved shows including Smiling Friends, the recently revived Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and Rick & Morty – all of which will be hosted at Philly’s famed Punch Line.
The locations around the city hosting the festival’s rollout include The Brooklyn Bowl, as well as The Fillmore which will play host to the event’s headliners in Run the Jewels on Friday, Tierra Whack on Saturday and Dethklok closing out the show on Sunday.
The news of the live return of Dethklok coincides with the recently confirmed news of a brand new Metalocalypse feature film. The longform iteration of franchise comes from series co-creators Brendon Small and Tommy Blancha. The narrative follows the tyrannous Tribunal and their maniacal “Falconback Project”. Also, the earth finds itself facing decimation via the Doomstar threatening to penetrate Earth’s atmosphere.
The announcement of Dethklok also follows continued speculation following news from drummer Gene Hoglan. The veteran percussionist left his long-tenured seat as the drummer for Testament and spoke about his creative commitments – of which Dethklok was among his top priorities.
“One of the larger projects that’s coming up really directly as well is Dethklok is working on a movie,” said Hoglan. “So that’s gonna entail some definite intent from me. You know, I’m deeply involved in that, so we’re working on the next album, the soundtrack – well the movie doesn’t quite have a soundtrack to it – but we’re gonna have the movie, we’re gonna have the album for Dethklok, and I would imagine some touring as well.”
