The popular series was confirmed to be turned into a feature film last spring and now, it seems as though the wheels are in motion.

Last spring, fans of the Adult Swim cult sensation Metalocalypse got the news they had been years in the making – the network was reviving the IP in the form of a feature length film.

The long form iteration of Metalocalypse comes from series co-creators Brendon Small and Tommy Blancha. The narrative follows the tyrannous Tribunal and their maniacal “Falconback Project”. Also, the earth finds itself facing decimation via the Doomstar threatening to penetrate Earth’s atmosphere.

The initial announcement further revealed that the plot of the updated resumes directly after the series finale of the rescue of Toki Wartooth and presents Dethklok battling their own egos for the greater good of the world.

In a recent interview via the Sobre La Dosis podcast with host Jonathan Montenegro, former Testament drummer and venerated percussive practitioner Gene Hoglan dove into what his professional life has been like since his amicable departure from the thrash pillars. Among the various projects Hoglan is involved with, he explained that one of the most consuming is that of Dethklok’s highly-anticipated return.

“One of the larger projects that’s coming up really directly as well is Dethklok is working on a movie,” said Hoglan. “So that’s gonna entail some definite intent from me. You know, I’m deeply involved in that, so we’re working on the next album, the soundtrack – well the movie doesn’t quite have a soundtrack to it – but we’re gonna have the movie, we’re gonna have the album for Dethklok, and I would imagine some touring as well.”

During it’s run on the Network, Metalocalypse tallied some 63 episodes spanning 4 seasons across a decade which culminated with the half-hour special The Doomstar Requeim in 2013. During the show’s stretch Small along with Dethklok dropped 2007’s The Dethalbum, 2009’s Dethalbum II and 2012’s Dethalbum III.
