Taking inspirational cues from the legendary Bad Brains, the Chicago crew get wild with their signature brand of bouncy hardcore.
Last month, modern hardcore flag-bearers Flatspot Records confirmed the January 27th arrival of the fourth edition of their ‘Extermination’ label compilation. The rollout of the comprehensive effort that features cuts from the likes of End It, Jivebomb, Section H8, The Chisel, and Spy, just to name a few was introduced with the latest from Australian hardcore horde SPEED with the two and a half minute clobbering in “One Blood We Bleed”.
In the decade since the inception of the Extermination compilation series, the label has featured cuts from the likes of Turnstile, Terror, Power Trip, Cruel Hand, and King Nine spanning the first three editions.
Speaking to the cultural importance of the compilation, Flatspot Records proprietors Che Figueroa and Ricky Singh shared, “This compilation was started to provide a snapshot of the current state of hardcore. Every song is exclusive to the series, and we love to see bands take pride in giving us some of their best songs for this compilation. With Volume 4, we present the next wave of hardcore from our perspective. For this volume, every single band gave 110% raw power and pure energy. This is a true representation of hardcore in its purest form.”
Adding to the anticipation of the release, Flatspot Records has delivered the second preview of the project from Chicago prospects Buggin with the one-minute pile-driver that is “Attitude”. Vocalist Bryanna Bennett reiterated their headspace in composing the minute-long molotov.
“For ‘Attitude’ I really wanted to tap into our biggest inspiration Bad Brains and make something positive. I was really struggling with my mental health and feeling motivated to even create anything so it just made sense to pour all my bad feelings into a song that I hope others can relate to and feel inspired by.”
Paired with the rollout of The Extermination label compilation, Flatspot Records has also confirmed their label showcase set for Brooklyn, NY on April 8th featuring the previously mentioned Speed, Scowl, King Nine, Regulate, End It, Raw Brigade, Hangman, Buggin, and Jivebomb.
