Adult Swim revives ‘Metalocalypse’ as a feature length film

In addition to the return of Dethklok, the network has feature films for Aqua Teen Hunger Force and The Venture Bros. in the works.

It has been some eight years since the collective of Nathan Explosion, Skwisgaar Skwigelf, Pickles, William Murderface, and Toki Wartooth embarked on a heavy metal adventure as the animated aggressors of Adult Swim. While the cult-like fanbase of Metalocalypse has spent years trying to convince the network to bring back the series, it would seem as though the will of the people has been heard.

The feature length iteration of Metalocalypse comes from series co-creators Brendon Small and Tommy Blancha. The narrative follows the tyrannous Tribunal and their maniacal “Falconback Project”. Also, the earth finds itself facing decimation via the Doomstar threatening to penetrate Earth’s atmosphere.

The plot resumes directly after the series finale of the rescue of Toki Wartooth and presents Dethklok battling their own egos for the greater good of the world. During it’s run on the Network, Metalocalypse tallied some 63 episodes spanning 4 seasons across a decade which culminated with the half-hour special The Doomstar Requeim in 2013. During the show’s stretch Small also produced four original albums of metal mastery with the show;’s animated band, Dethklok. The news of the feature film also comes with news of an accompanying soundtrack.

In addition to the news of the return of Metalocalypse, Adult Swim is also rebooting the beloved animated series in Aqua Teen Hunger Force and The Venture Bros. The big unveil of three of the network’s most cherished properties seems to be a direct result of the fans insistence. “Leveraging the power of WarnerMedia allows us to deliver original content to our amazingly dedicated and not-shy fans, while also giving our talented series creators an opportunity to tell stories in new and interesting ways,” said Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen.

Each of the feature films will be released on Blu-ray/DVD, on digital video on demand and electronic sell through (EST) for an exclusive 90-day window before premiering on HBO Max and Adult Swim.
