Produces Two Contenders for Knockout of the Year
Despite a headlining bout between two-division champion Amanda Nunez and Canadian contender Felicia Spencer that looked more like a sparring session than a title shot, UFC 250 managed to deliver some noteworthy highlights from the bantamweight division.
Opening the main card, The “Suga Show” Sean O’Malley delivered what is already being called one of the best walkoff knockouts seen in the sport. At all of 25 years old, O’Malley is an unbeaten 12-0 and quickly becoming a household name with finishes like this.
The night would offer two contenders for knockout of the year honors. Cody Garbrant provided an emphatic reason to return his name into the “best of the division” conversation by sleeping a competent, Raphael Assuncao. Right before the bell to end the second round, Garbrant landed the kind of right hand that could remove the soul from a body. It was the equivalent to being posterized in basketball. Not to mention, Assuncao is one of the most durable dudes in the division.
As for the headlining Nunes and Spencer bout, Nunes is the victim of minimal competition that can perform at her level. The fight never felt competitive and that’s less Spencer’s ability and more Nunes’ superiority. When have the GOAT conversations, it would be criminal to omit Nunes.
