Columnist Rob Pasbani explains how Don King ended up in wrestling, the status of Bay Wyatt, which WWE star landed a Hollywood role and the high Smackdown rating.
After last night’s main event of Finn Balor, Damian Priest & Dominik Mysterio vs. Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn, there was an altercation with the six people in the match. The match featured a few mistimed spots.
PWInsider reports that there were words exchanged and things got heated “borne out of the frustration over how the match went but was never in danger of getting physical.” The main frustration, according to PWInsider was that parts of the match were changed last minute. There was blame placed on one wrestler, who PWInsiders’ sources would not name so as “not make the internet go insane.”
Elsewhere on Raw, Ricochet was being Ricochet after being called out by Logan Paul:
Major League Wrestling got the combat sports world talking this weekend after their major FITE+ event, Never Say Never. Before the main event, it was revealed that the backer of new MLW Champion Alex Kane’s faction, Bomaye Fight Club, was legendary boxing promoter Don King.
The reveal led to publicity in places such as the NY Post:
In a pre-tape aired on the stream, King said, “I’m the man with the plan at Bomaye. Alex Kane, bring that MLW world heavyweight title back to me tonight live on Fite+. Bomaye! Bomaye!” Kane dethroned Alex Hammerstone’s nearly two-year reign. You can watch a replay on FITE+ for a monthly subscription price of $7.99.
MLW’s Court Bauer hopes to feature King more on MLW programming, likely in pre-tapes. He tells the NY Post “The goal, of course, is to have him there [in person], but having his presence with pretapes with Alex [Kane] those kinds of things. We will always find a way to do it.”
MLW announced their next big event is Fury Road at the 2300 Arena in Philly, on Sunday night, September 3rd. More info here.
Bo joins Jordan Olds and Rob Pasbani for maybe the worst Hulk Hogan segment yet. At least there was soime great wrestling with Chris Benoit vs. Kensuke Sasaki, Johnny B. Badd vs. Eddy Guerrero and the main event of Sting vs. Dean Malenko. Meanwhile, Lex Luger looks like Carmella Soprano.
Colin Young and Rob Pasbani are lifelong wrestling fans, and Jordan Olds is a newer fan who has never seen one episode of WCW Monday Nitro. Join the trio as we chronologically watch the entire series, week-by-week on our new show, Knotfest KNITRO.
Fightful Select reports Bray Wyatt is still recovering from the illness that has kept him out of action since Summer Slam. He has yet to be cleared and there is not yet a timetable for return.
Undertaker was interviewed by Alistair McGeorge of Metro and offered his opinion on Wyatt’s character: “They need to back Bray’s character up to the original character, get away from – they’ve kind of got themselves booked into a situation where it’s kind of difficult for him to have matches. I think the original Wyatt Family Bray, that’s the money. I got to work with Bray at ‘Mania the year after I got concussed in the Brock match. I worked with Bray – I think a lot of him, and I like what he’s doing. I think they just have to figure out how to… they need to back it up I think. His promos, and then his ability to work – he’s an incredible, incredible worker but he’s not getting the opportunity to do it. I hope the best for him, I really do think a lot of him. We’ll see what happens there.”
Drew McIntyre was cast in the Hollywood movie The Killer’s Game, an action film. His co-star is former WWE superstar Dave Bautista and rap legend Ice Cube.
Last weekend’s Smackdown may end up being the highest-rated show on all of television for the week, the first time in history any wrestling show achieved that. They also scored a very high demo rating for the trial of Roman Reigns.
WWE stars Liv Morgan and Scarlett Bordeaux were at the premiere of Barbie in Hollywood last week.
