The Swedish legends included some of their most enduring work on their recent run supporting ‘Sweet Evil Sun’.
Trekking in support of their most recent full length masterclass, Sweet Evil Sun, Swedish doom legends Candlemass performed an intimate, equally intense set at 1720 in Downtown Los Angeles for a capacity room of diehard fans.
The payoff for fans in the building was a live set of some of the band’s most timeless work. Pulling out essentials from their classic era, including the debut, Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, as well Nightfall and Ancient Dreams – tonight’s set revisited the tracks that have endured for decades and still land with the same magnitude.
Playing only one new track, Candlemass punctuated their time with an encore tailored to the most ardent fans. Clsing the show with some of their most definitive work, tracks like “A Sorcerer’s Pledge” and “Solitude” made the pack-tight club gig an especially memorable night for those lucky enough to attend services.
Adding to the significance of the tour stop, goth heavy sensation Unto Others executed a soaring set that sourced tracks from their universally-praised LP, Strength – the kind of performance that properly set the tone for the spectacle the night deliver. Frontman Gabe Franco shines as saavy songwriter, a dynamic vocalist and a versatile guitarist that crafts contemporary compositions that feel classic.
