UK extreme metal pillars Carcass began their US and Canada headlining trek with a comprehensive set that spanned some three decades of metallic mastery this weekend. Pulling up the brakes in Southern California, Carcass along with Municipal Waste, Sacred Reich and Creeping Death lay waste to the Observatory in Santa Ana, CA to kick off the run.
While Carcass continue to tour in support of their 2021 triumph, Torn Arteries, the setlist was loaded with selections from their dominant 90’s era like Swansong, Heartwork and Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious – to the adulation of the diehard fans that packed the building early.
Closing the show with a pair of enduring cuts in “Mount of Execution” from Surgical Steel and the 1992 title track to Tools of the Trade, Carcass set the bar the highest for the duration of the tour. Coupled with energized sets from party thrash practitioners Municipal Waste, Arizona legends Sacred Reich and modern death metal standouts Creeping Death – the night was all killer, zero filler.
