Boomtown Brewery, Beer Tape & Death Row Records Host a Release Party for Their West Coast IPA

In celebration of Death Row Records’ 30th Anniversary, the West Coast IPA was released this past weekend at Boomtown Brewery with food trucks, great beer and some West Coast hip-hop.

After a whole year of celebrating their 30th anniversary, Death Row Records released a West Coast IPA in collaboration with LA’s very own Boomtown Brewery and hip-hop & craft beer brand Beer Tape. The release party was exactly what you would expect from these very West Coast centric brands.

Boomtown Brewery is already one of the better drinking spaces in Los Angeles but add some of LA’s best chef-driven food trucks, a solid rotation of craft beer, and DJ’s spinning your favorite West Coast anthems and you have a recipe for a memorable night. The festivities kicked off at 3pm, and from the get go the vibe was set. Walking around the space you would have noticed the old school Death Row Records music videos being projected onto the wall and a great photo-op, the iconic Death Row Records electric chair. The DJs were spinning classics from Tha Dogg Pound, Dr. Dre, Tupac and Snoop Dogg. Anthem after anthem made the soundtrack for the evening a true highlight.

In its hey-day, Death Row Records was behind some of the greatest music of the era, so when it comes to a beer collaboration, it has to be just as great. The beer is a full bodied 7% West Coast IPA with notes of citrus, pine and grapefruit. The honey sweetness of the malt blends perfectly with the resinous hops. We had the chance to chat with Beer Tapes’ Daniel Phoenix who said, “We wanted to appeal to people who don’t drink IPAs but still stay loyal to the beer nerds.” They hit the nail on the head with the beer as it has everything a beer drinker would ask for of an IPA but still crushable for the light beer drinkers.

You can’t stay out all night drinking without having some bomb food around. Boomtown Brewery always has a great rotation of visiting food trucks and this event was no different. They invited some great chef-driven food trucks including Ronnie’s Kickin’ Chicken slanging chicken sandos, Savage Tacos with some great vegan-friendly tacos, and Heavy Handed serving one of the best burgers in the city. Chocolate and the Chip was also on site satisfying everyone’s sweet tooth or post smoke session munchie fix.

The Death Row Records x Boomtown Brewery x Beer Tape 30th Anniversary West Coast IPA will only be available at the Boomtown’s tap room, some very select retailers, and at Knotfest Los Angeles.
