We here at Knotfest have scoured the country to find some of the best metal-themed restaurants, bars, and cafes. Fierce Bites spotlights a monthly menu highlighting some hard-core menu items that will definitely have fans drooling.
Let’s start this new year right! To kick it off, lets us introduce you to the Evil Cooks of LA and Heavy Metal Ice Cream out of St. Louis but we’re also bringing back some familiar restaurants. Kuma’s Corner and Grill Em’All have another awesome Burger of the Month while Sizzle Pie is slinging a new veggie Pizza of the Month.
The Evil Cooks are based out of Los Angeles, California. They have been in business over a decade but in the past few years they decided to focus on food production on a smaller scale to give more attention to our customers. LA has some of the best taquerias outside of Mexico but their concept is a little different than most which makes us unique. They specialize in street gourmet tacos such and are notorious for their Black Al Pastor and Black Octopus. After taking down a few tacos you can’t walk away without one of their dessert tacos such as their famous Flan Taco.
The McSatan combines two Los Angeles food staples but its origins are traced all the way to Mexico City. The McSatan is a smash burger topped with American cheese wrapped up by a hand made corn tortilla with melty mozzarella cheese and topped with caramelized onions with salsa, guacamole and bacon.
Grill Em’All was started by Chef Ryan Harkins and former professional wrestler Matt Chernus. They served gourmet burgers out of a food truck back in 2009. Before opening up their heavy metal themed brick and mortar they won the first ‘Great Food Truck Race’ and were featured on the ‘Best Thing I Ever Ate.’ Their popularity led them to lay their food trucks to rest and serve burgers and fries out their restaurant in Alhambra, California.
Los Angeles’ burger Valhalla is starting the new year strong with their Lucha Brothers burger. January’s Burger of the Month uses house made beef chorizo, Oaxaca cheese, roasted jalapeños, diced tomato, cilantro and tortilla chips on their famous half pound burger patty.
Kuma’s started in 2005 with its flagship location at the corner of Belmont and Francisco avenues in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood. From their origins as a corner bar with solid American bistro fare, they’ve grown to five locations that offer the finest burgers available on this planet or any other.
Kuma’s Corner’s January Burger of the Month is the Metal Blade. The beefy burger has two 5.5oz Kuma’s patties, Blade Sauce, pickles, 3 slices of American cheese and lettuce all in a pretzel bun.
Founders Matt Jacobson and Mikey McKennedy came together and envisioned an independent pizzeria that would serve up the perfect slice. In 2011, they opened up their first location on East Burnside Street in Portland, Oregon. Since then, they have consistently ranked in the top 10 independent pizzerias in the country. They serve East Coast style slices and pies with a healthy blend of West Coast flair by turning the freshest, highest-quality ingredients into tried and true classics with bold new pizza visions in a variety of meat, veggie, and vegan options.
As we start of the new year, it seems everyone’s goal is to lose a little weight. Well, Sizzle Pie wants you to eat your greens so their January Pizza of the Month is the vegetarian RABBIT pizza. The pie is covered in spinach, red onion, pickled hot peppers, bacos and drizzled with their signature Vegan ranch.
Heavy Metal Ice Cream specializes in gourmet, small batch ice cream sold in St. Louis, Mo. using a Crème Anglaise base, consisting of a proprietary, high butterfat content dairy blend of heavy cream, fresh milk, rich farm raised egg yolks, and a soon to be official classification of “Super Premium” scratch made ice cream. In simple terms, their product has a butterfat content of between 14% to 18% in all of their flavors. The gold standard in gourmet, small batch ice cream. Although their brick and mortar shop isn’t open quite yet, their gold standard ice cream is available via curb side pick up. Just hit them up on Instagram.
