Fierce Bites Menu: August 2023

Posted by Harris David in Fierce Bites on August 15, 2023

Every month we try our hardest to find you great burgers, pizza, drinks, and tacos for both the meat-eater and Vegan crowd; this month is no different. While doing our research we found some interesting combinations, and we’re all for it. August’s menu is for the folks that gave up on getting that beach-ready body. This month’s menu is full of pizza, burgers, tons of desserts, and a tribute to our hero, Pee-Wee Herman. Evil Cooks, Kuma’s Corner, Sizzle Pie, Grill Em’ All, Terror Tacos, and Epic Deli take over another menu and they’re bringing some great menu items for us to drool over. We hope you dig this month’s menu as much as we do. Cheers!

EVIL COOKS – THE BANANA MOSH PIT

Our friends at Evil Cooks are no strangers to thinking outside of the box. Pobre Diablo and La Bruja have been in business for over a decade but in the past few years have decided to focus on food production on a smaller scale to give more attention to their customers. Los Angeles has some of the best taquerias outside of Mexico, but their concepts stand out because of their ingenuity and imagination. They specialize in street gourmet tacos and are notorious for their black al pastor and black octopus trompo (meat spit).

In true Evil Cooks sorcery, they’ve created another original. We featured the flan taco a few month’s ago so we know they are no strangers to the dessert taco. This month’s feature is the epic Banana Mosh Pit. They take their crepe-like flour tortilla and fill it with fried bananas, house-made ice cream from the ice cream trompo, vanilla whipped cream, and top it with fresh strawberries and mint.

KUMA’S CORNER – CANDY

Kuma’s started in 2005 with its flagship location at the corner of Belmont and Francisco avenues in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood. From their origins as a corner bar with solid American bistro fare, they’ve grown to five locations that offer the finest burgers available on this planet or any other. A huge congratulations goes out to the Kuma’s team as they were named one of the twenty-six best burgers in Chicago by Timeout Chicago. Chicago is a major foodie city with tons of great food so it’s a great honor.

This month’s BOTM gets its namesake from the critically acclaimed band, Candy, whose album Heaven is Here took metal, hardcore, and punk to create the most extreme and unique record of 2022. Like the album, this burger is pretty damn unique in its own right. Kuma stacks their signature 10 oz patty, toasted jalapeño aioli, candied bacon jalapeño jam, neon green relish, and mango gummy bears. Kuma’s Corner has partnered with Chi-Town Pitties. $1 from every Candy Burger will go to rescue bully breeds from high-kill shelters while cultivating positive relationships to ensure the adoptive success into loving homes.

SIZZLE PIE – VEGAN ANGEL OF DEATH

Founders Matt Jacobson and Mikey McKennedy came together and envisioned an independent pizzeria that would serve up the perfect slice. In 2011, they opened up their first location on East Burnside Street in Portland, Oregon. Since then, they have consistently ranked in the top 10 independent pizzerias in the country. They serve East Coast-style slices and pies with a healthy blend of West Coast flair by turning the freshest, highest-quality ingredients into tried and true classics with bold new pizza visions in a variety of meat, veggie, and vegan options.

This month Sizzle Pie is bringing back one of their classic pies but they made it Vegan. The Vegan Angel of Death uses a red sauce base, Follow Your Heart Vegan “mozzarella” cheese, jalapeño, pineapple, shaved almonds, and fresh cilantro. When you order through the Sizzle Pie app and add a sauce heart, you will be making a contribution to Hacienda Community Development Corporation. This Latino-led community development corporation strengthens families by providing housing, homeownership support, economic advancement, and educational opportunities.

GRILL ‘EM ALL – CRADLE OF FILTH aka GANGREL

Grill Em’ All has cemented themselves as a Los Angeles burger institution. Chef Ryan Harkins and former professional wrestler Matt Chernus started by serving gourmet burgers out of a food truck back in 2009. Before opening up their heavy metal themed brick and mortar they won the first ‘Great Food Truck Race’ and were featured on the ‘Best Thing I Ever Ate.’ Their popularity led them to lay their food trucks to rest and serve burgers and fries out their restaurant in Alhambra, California.

This month’s burger gets its name from the legendary gothic heavy metal giants and the pro wrestling vampire. The burger stacks thier signature half pound burger, garlic parmesan ranch, garlic chips, garlic spread, Swiss cheese, field greens, in between two garlic parmesan buns.

EPIC DELI – RASPBERRY COCONUT ZINGERS CHEESECAKE

This popular McHenry, Illinois eatery is known for their subs, sandwiches, chimichangas, crazy appetizers, craft beer, cold brew coffee, and dessert. Epic Deli creates a special menu every month along with a Vegan companion. Whether you’re Vegan, vegetarian, keto/low carb or just an over-indulging carnivore; they have something for you. If you head over to their IG page you can see for yourself in real time, the awesome creations they’re constantly putting out.

The geniuses at Epic Deli have created this boozy toasted coconut cheesecake using a graham cracker crust filled with Hostess’ Raspberry Zingers, Toasted Coconut Rumchata, and topped with a raspberry jam.

TERROR TACOS – PEE WEE REUBEN

Terror Taco was started by two brothers that grew up in the 80’s, who watched too many horror films, played in hardcore and metal bands together, and ate the best Mexican food the Southwest and West Coast had to offer. They created this brand and space to make the food they wanted to eat, to listen to death metal, and to give anyone willing to walk through our doors a completely different experience. Terror Taco offers an all vegan menu of classic Mexican food including tacos, burritos and nachos. VEGAN. METAL. HORROR. TACOS.

In honor of the late Paul Reubens, Terror Tacos has created a very limited Pee Wee Reuben taco. They stuff a grilled pita shell with marinated sliced seitan, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing, spicy brown mustard, gouda cheese, and top it with crispy onions.

ZOMBIE BURGER + DRINK LAB – LOBSTER ROLL NACHOS

Zombie Burger + Drink Lab are famous for their inventive flavor combos and once you look through their menu you’ll see just how inventive they can get. The GOREmet eatery evokes a classic roadside burger stand but in a ‘post apocalyptic chic’ setting. They proudly pair fresh ingredients with expert preparation. Zombie Burger features their very own custom three-cut beef burger blend, specially-crafted buns, and hand-mixed shakes.

Zombie Burger has created a special menu inspired by the Iowa State Fair. State Fairs usually mena lots of butter and deep frying EVERYTHING. As a tribute to this beautiful element of Americana, the menu inlcudes a Butter Cow Burger, Fried Oreo Shake, Fried Scitcharoo, and a Iowa-tini. Zombie Burger’s contribution to this month’s menu is their Lobster Roll Nachos. They take a boat full of crispy fried potato chips. seasoned with Old Bay, butter poached lobster, celery, scallions, Gruyere cheese sauce, and lemon mayo.
