Premiere: Kill the Lights pay tribute to Metallica with a ‘Quarantine Cover’ of “Battery”

The collective of metal veterans from former projects like Bullet for My Valentine, Threat Signals, Still Remains, and Throw The Fight continue to champion the classics.

Kill the Lights, from the very start, have embraced an element of the classic in their music. The band’s full length debut. The Sinner, dropped late this summer and the balance of modernity with timeless taste translates fluidly in the 11-track collection.

The assembly of Bullet For My Valentine founding drummer Michael “Moose” Thomas, Throw The Fight vocalist James Clark, guitarist Jordan Whelan of Still Remains, and Threat Signal guitarist Travis Montgomery have become a proven entity with an identity all their own with Kill the Lights. As accomplished musicians in their own right, the collective serves well in crafting the kind of music that feels familiar, yet steers clear of feeling repetitive.

It’s that reverence for their lineage that gives the band a unique understanding how to incorporate such a classic sound into their own work. In staying active, the band has utilized their time in lockdown by tipping their hat to the greats that have inspired them with a series of Quarantine Covers.

Kill the Lights first paid tribute to thrash titans, Testament, with a cover of the anthem, “Into The Pit.” Now the band pursues the holy grail with a Quarantine Cover of one of metal music’s true essentials, with a rendition of “Battery” from Metallica’s ageless Master of Puppets.

Moose spoke on the decision to take on the track. ‘We were talking about doing another ‘Quarantine Cover’ after we had so much fun covering ‘Into The Pit’ by Testament, and it was obvious that we had to try and top that. In my mind, I’ve always wanted to cover anything off the amazingly good Master Of Puppets, and it came down to a choice between ‘Disposable Heroes’ or ‘Battery.’ We chose the latter just because we all agreed that it would be a good challenge to hopefully do justice to. And of course, we’re massive Metallica fans (who isn’t?) and we had a fun time tracking it.”
