The band also debuted new music with the live reveal of “Never Dawn”.
Italian gothic metal greats Lacuna Coil took to the sold out Belasco Theater for a finale of their West Coast tour over the weekend. Trekking in support of their ambitious Comalies XX full length from last year, the album is a compilation of deconstructed and reimagined versions of tracks from the band’s seminal 2002 LP, Comalies.
Boasting a stellar supporting roster with the likes of The Birthday Massacre, Finnish sensation Blind Channel and Edge of Paradise adding to the festivities, the excitement in the air was thick as the energy only ramped up with each set.
The final date on the band’s month-long stretch, the Los Angeles play functioned as a bit of a victory lap for Lacuna Coil – drawing to a close a glorious return that saw the band play a strong succession of shows. Making their live return in 2022, Lacuna Coil began their run back in April of last year, performing for the first time in front of fans since early 2020.
Since then, the band’s pace has been nothing short of persistent, making international festival appearances and taking on their own headlining plays in various parts of the world. The final date of the West Coast run proved to be a powerful punctuation to the band’s current chapter – one that underscores their enduring place as a dominant live force and an important contributor in contemporary heavy music.
Showcasing selections from entries including 2019’s Black Anima, 2016’s Delirium and even revisiting 2014’s Broken Crown Halo with the closer, “Nothing Stands In Our Way”, Lacuna Coil displayed their staying power with a set of tracks that felt fresh as ever, though resonating with the same effectiveness as a greatest hit. Additionally, the band unveiled a new track in the thick of the set, playing “Never Dawn” to a capacity crowd in the clutches of the band’s command.
