The first exclusive series for Disney + from Marvel will feature a rollout of nine installments leading right up to the release of ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’.

The first glimpse into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2021 comes with the exclusive Disney+ series, Wandavision slated to premiere later this month via the streaming service.

Making news today, Marvel Studios has announced that the series will be a nine-episode season, not six like which was initially rumored. The announcement makes the Matt Shakman-directed and Jac Schaeffer-penned series the longest effort of it’s kind, eclipsing Disney+’s other spinoff juggernaut, The Mandalorian.

The scheduled run of episodes will begin on January 15th and lead right up until the week prior to the premiere of The Falcon and the Winter Solider, which will be available on March 19th – making good on Marvel’s commitment to tie much of their universe together through the television and movie productions being unveiled in 2021.

“Marvel Studios’ WandaVision is a blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision—two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems,” Marvel said in a press release.

The significance of Wandavision segues into staple film franchise in the MCU including the highly-anticipated Spider Man 3 and the return of Benedict Cumberbatch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

“WandaVision, the first Marvel Studios series created exclusively for Disney+, stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, Paul Bettany as Vision, Kathryn Hahn as Agnes, and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, who was introduced to audiences in Captain Marvel,” the press release continues.

“Kat Dennings will reprise her role as Darcy from Thor and Thor: The Dark World, and Randall Park will reprise his role as Jimmy Woo from Ant-Man and The Wasp.” Given the kind of inclusion already confirmed in the series, it’s safe to assume there will be some surprises that will better link the series to the bigger picture of the MCU.

Coupled with the news of the extended season is a new teaser that delivers a minute of footage from the series and gives fans a look at what to expect. Tapping the charm of 1950’s-era family sitcoms, Wanda Maximoff and Vision keep up appearances as a normal, workaday husband and wife – though there is more than meets the eye.
