In the fallout from the recent allegations of abuse from former girlfriend actress Evan Rachel Wood, Marilyn Manson has been dropped by his record label, Loma Vista Recordings.
The label has released Manson’s last two studio efforts beginning with the 2017 release of Heaven Upside Down and his most recent album in 2020’s well-received We Are Chaos.
“In light of today’s disturbing allegations by Evan Rachel Wood and other women naming Marilyn Manson as their abuser, Loma Vista will cease to further promote his current album, effective immediately,” declared the label in a prepared statement. “Due to these concerning developments, we have also decided not to work with Marilyn Manson on any future projects.”
Wood has been vocal about her survival story of abuse and has since become an advocate for victims. In 2018, she testified before a Congressional subcommittee in an effort to help pass the Sexual Assault Survivors’ Bill of Rights. In 2019, Wood testified in front of California state legislators lobbying for the Phoenix Act, which would revise the statute of limitations with regards to domestic abuse charges.
Though Wood had never specified who her alleged abuser was, there had long been speculation. This morning, the actress confirmed her alleged abuser was in fact, Marilyn Manson.
“The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson,” Wood wrote. “He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives. I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent.”
In a show of solidarity, four other women have come forward with allegations that corroborate Wood’s assertion against Manson with their own experiences of physical, mental, and sexual assault. The musician’s camp has denied similar allegations that have surfaced in the past.
