Originally teasing the show as an appearance from the ‘Guardian of Asgaard’ the band has revealed they will be performing in celebration of the release of their latest album, ‘The Great Heathen Army’
Earlier this week, Viking metal titans Amon Amarth took to their socials to share that a special, AA-inspired band dubbed the Guardians of Asgaard would be making a special appearance at the upcoming extreme music pilgrimage to Wacken Open Air Festival. The post detailed that the band would be playing a set of Amon Amarth essentials, fueling speculation that something bigger might be in the works.
Fans’ collective gut feeling that the Guardians of Asgaard was actually something bigger than an Amon-inspired band was spot on, as the Nordic metal gods have now revealed that said Guardians are actually Amon Amarth themselves.
Just hours ago, the band again took to their social media platform to share that they will be storming the festival grounds for an abbreviated, albeit impactful live set to mark the release of their highly-anticipated full length album, The Great Heathen Army. In addition to the surprise set that will no doubt be a huge draw among those that have made the trek to Wacken, the band will also be streaming their surprise set for fans around the world.
Set to commence at 10:50am PT / 1:50p ET, fans can access the special performance for free via the streaming window below. In addition to the arrival of The Great Heathen Army, Amon Amarth will also launch the debut of the new video for “Find a Way or Make One” later this evening, completing an epic rollout of their 12th full length album.
Coupled with the campaign, Amon Amarth will also embark on their biggest North American tour to date with the Great Heathen Tour along with Carcass, Obituary and Cattle Decapitation. The run is set to begin in November and conclude with a historic performance at the iconic Kia Forum in Los Angeles, CA.
