The collision of metalcore and deathcore make for a dynamically heavy reimagining of the WCAR 2021 single.
Some nine months after the initial release, Michigan aggressors We Came As Romans have enlisted the heft of Canadian deathcore practitioners Brand of Sacrifice for a beefed up rendition of their anthemic 2021 stand alone single, “Darkbloom”.
The 2021 track proved especially important, serving as the continuation of the newest chapter of We Came As Romans, following the unexpected loss of the band’s beloved frontman, Kyle Pavone. In the wake of such a tremendous loss, the band opted to keep Pavone’s legacy as a priority, establishing the Kyle Pavone Foundation for those struggling with addiction.
We Came As Romans also ensured the legacy of Pavone thrived by reconfiguring and reemerging with their brand emotionally charged catharsis. The fruit of that reasserted fortitude was 2021’s towering single, “Darkbloom”.
Now, the band have tapped into the spirit of collaboration by working side by side with Brand of Sacrifice to offer a new, reimagined take on the track with plenty of added muscle. Teaming with Drew Fulk (Motionless In White, Fit For A King, Crown The Empire), the tandem of styles results in a dynamic show of force that allows both bands to assert their flair, while complimenting one another on an especially powerful track.
We Came As Romans collectively said of the track,“We’ve been fans of Brand of Sacrifice for a minute – and when we had the idea to do a reimagined version of ‘Darkbloom’, they were the first people to come to mind. A lot of bands have done incredible re-releases or reimagined versions of songs, and those versions are usually stripped down and showcase a softer side. We wanted to do the exact opposite – to team up with some powerhouses in the deathcore scene, and release something heavy, fast paced and aggressive. It’s been a blast working with the BOS guys, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.”
Brand of Sacrifice chimed in on the collaboration saying, “When WCAR approached us to rewrite this track with them, we were excited to be able to work with a band that has done so much for metalcore as a whole. This reimagined version of ‘Darkbloom’ is full of aggression and energy, and combines all of the elements that make both of our bands special with some unexpected surprises along the way. I’m super stoked that we have the opportunity to innovate and bridge the gap between two very different sub genres, and do something insane that really hasn’t been done all that often in metal.”
