Get the details on the inaugural release on Decibel Cooper and the US headlining tour in support of the album.
Following months of build-up further fueled by regular studio updates and plenty of fan-driven speculation, the second solo album from multi-hyphenate Corey Taylor, CMF2, now has an official arrival date. Due out September 15th, the eagerly-awaited follow up the largely acclaimed debut of 2020’s CMFT, will serve as the inaugural release via Taylor’s own imprint, Decibel Cooper.
Paired with the news of the second full length studio effort, Taylor has delivered an initial preview of the revelry packaged into CMF2, unveiling of the anthemic lead single, “Beyond”. A track that dates back nearly two decades ago, Taylor explains that the single was an idea that long lingered for the right reasons, but was never fully fleshed out… until now.
Taylor further explained how the track has since evolved from its initial iteration, one that better fits the common thematic direction of the record overall.
“I originally wrote it as an aggressive romantic song, but I’m also looking at it now as a kind of ‘come together’ song,” Taylor explains. “Bringing the masses together, and letting them know that I want my music to take them beyond what they may think about me. Maybe they’ve had a misconception about me. It’s not exactly a calling card, more like throwing the bat signal up and being ‘alright, let’s turn everything on its head.’ It’s almost a dual threat, because now I look at it from two standpoints.”
Enlisting director Dale “Rage” Resteghini for the accompanying music video, “Beyond” was premiered via Rolling Stone and features Taylor holding court in a remote location in California’s Mojave desert. Along with the band and fiery rock troupe Cherry Bombs, the visual frames a spectacle that highlights the live energy of a Taylor set, while the frontman is surrounded by different versions of himself throughout the years.
Teaming with producer Jay Ruston who previously worked with Taylor on both Stone Sour’s Hydrograd as well as the CMFT debut, the second installment of the series finds Taylor leveling up his performative potential. Singing, playing both lead and rhythm guitar, as well as piano and mandolin, CMF2 is definitive statement of the full range of Taylor’s ever-evolving songwriting prowess.
Summarizing of the album overall, Taylor adds, “My first solo album was kind of where I was coming from. This album is more where we’re going.”
