The band’s ‘An Evening with Friends’ Tour includes support from Royal Coda and Body Thief – kicking off with an intimate show at Hollywood’s famed Whisky A Go Go.
Proving especially resilient in the recent weeks, Dance Gavin Dance has be hit with a ton of bricks on both a personal and professional level and yet has still managed to persevere.
Back in April, just prior to their Swanfest return, Dance Gavin Dance tragically lost their bassist Tim Feerick, who unexpected passed away at just 34 years old. With a heavy heart, the band delivered an emotional showing at Swanfest and reiterated why they are so beloved among their most passionate base of supporters.
Earlier this month, the band confirmed that vocalist Tilian Pearson would be stepping away from the band, “effective immediately” to seek treatment following allegation of sexual misconduct. The swift action was paired with the confirmation that the world of DGD would solider on – including staying on course to release their latest album Jackpot Juicer as a way to pay tribute to Feerick – marking his final recordings with the band.
Shortly thereafter, Dance Gavin Dance got the news that they had been replaced on the summer trek they had confirmed with Coheed and Cambria. The band kept their reasoning vague but issued the following statement, “After much internal conversation, we have decided to replace Dance Gavin Dance on the ‘A Window of the Waking Mind Tour.’ We wish them healing and strength.”
Forced yet again to pivot, Dance Gavin Dance, ever the scrappers, has confirmed their own headlining tour to coincide with the arrival of the new album, Jackpot Juicer. ‘An Evening with Friends’ Tour is set to kick of on July 29th, the same day the album drops. Celebrating the release, the band will perform a wildly intimate show at the hollowed grounds of the famed Sunset Strip rock mecca of the Whisky A Go Go.
Creatively reconfiguring the line-up, Dance Gavin Dance will feature guitarist Andrew Wells taking centerstage assuming the task of clean singing duties. Marc Okubo of Veil of Maya will join the run to take on Andrew’s guitar role and the band will be joined by former Dance Gavin Dance frontman and frontman of Royal Coda, Kurt Travis, for select songs. Fittingly, the tour boasts supporting sets from Royal Coda and Big Thief.
DGD drummer Matt Mingus spoke about the announcement, the unexpected change of plans and the band’s commitment to hitting the road. “We are very pleased to announce our exciting & intimate headlining tour, ‘An Evening With Friends.’
Last month, unfortunately, and not by our choice, we were made aware that we could not perform on the summer tour we had been looking forward to for the past year. We were lucky enough to get the support from our partners to help curate a last-minute headline tour hitting most of the cities we already planned on performing in.
It’s yet another obstacle put in our way that we are willing and able to overcome. While change can sometimes be challenging to adapt to, we are optimistic and looking towards the future with our heads held high and a fantastic new album to celebrate. We look forward to seeing you this summer.”
On the tour, Dance Gavin Dance are confirmed for 21 intimate dates spotting key markets across the country. In addition to the cozy confines, the nightly setlists will include fan favorites, rarely performed deep cuts and as well as a healthy preview of the new album, Jackpot Juicer which arrives July 29th via Rise Records.
