To celebrate the arrival of the limited collaboration line with Deftones and purveyor of Y2K-era chic, Heaven by Marc Jacobs, the band played an especially rare, incredibly intimate set in front of about 700 fans at the Music Hall in Williamsburg, NY.
In addition to the spectacle of seeing one of the genre’s biggest bands in such a reach-out-and-touch-someone kind of environment, the band really leaned into the spirit of the collaboration, reaching deep into their trove of musical gems and bring out some rare renditions for the epic launch party.
Deftones dropped “Mascara” from their 1997 classic, Around the Fur for the first time live in nearly a decade. The band also brought out some gems from the White Pony-era including “Elite” and “Feiticeira” both which hadn’t been included in a live set in five years.
While the set spanned the band’s cannon of essentials, with anthems like “Be Quiet and Drive”, “Digital Bath” and “My Own Summer (Shove It)” Deftones closed out in style going back-to-back with an encore that covered a generation in two tracks. Playing “Ohms” from their most recent masterclass, the band then dove into “Nosebleed” from their debut Adrenaline before walking off triumphant.
Additionally, Deftones and Heaven by Marc Jacobs have announced a month long exhibition at the Heaven Fairfax store gallery in Los Angeles. Launching in tandem with the capsule, the exhibition begins March 3rd and closes out April 4th. The collection of album art, promotional posters, photography, artifacts and even some of the band’s first merch designs will encompass the band’s first decade – aligning with the theme of the collaboration with Heaven.
