Fans only got to see just 15 seconds of Ozzy Osbourne’s NFL Halftime Show

Posted by Ramon Gonzales in News on September 9, 2022

Of the two-song set, the television broadcast only included a brief glimpse of show before cutting away to NFL commentary.

Last night was supposed to be a big night for fans of heavy music for two reasons. One, Ozzy Osbourne was invited to perform for the NFL Kickoff between The champion Los Angeles Rams and the very promising Buffalo Bills – a high profile match-up to say the least. Two, the performance was only Ozzy’s second in three years. Battling health issues, the icon has had to sideline touring plans all in addition to the pandemic pause.

Not to mention, the performance was set to happen on the eve of the release of his 11th studio album, Patient Number 9 – a collection of songs that features a highly-touted roster of contributors ranging from Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan to Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, Chris Chaney of Jane’s Addiction and even the late Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters. The album is further bolstered by guitar legends like Eric Clapton, longtime Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde, Jeff Beck and the timeless tandem of Ozzy and Tony Iommi, who is featured on two tracks on the project.

The excitement going into the halftime performance was more than enough to make up for the lackluster performance from the hometown Rams as fans both at SoFI Stadium and watching on the national broadcast waited with anticipation for what was to come from the Prince of Darkness. For those in attendance, they got to watch Ozzy blare through a concise, albeit powerful two-song set that included the title track to his new album and a rendition of “Crazy Train” which Zakk Wylde made an appearance for.

The audience watching on the national broadcast however only got to see fifteen seconds of Ozzy. You read that right.

15 seconds.

The NBC broadcast team introduced Ozzy as the band had already began the title track, “Patient Number 9”, then all of just seconds later, cameras cut back to the broadcast team for analysis of the first half of the game. It was a move that left fans both puzzled and pissed.

From what was briefly shown last night, Ozzy was flanked by produced Andrew Watt on guitar, Chris Chaney on bass and Tommy Clufetos behind the drum kit. Fan footage would reveal that Zakk Wylde pulled up for “Crazy Train” though it seems almost insulting that fans would have missed that if not for social media footage.

Fan shared footage shows the broadcast blunder below. Also included is a fan-shared version of the entire halftime performance.

in related news, to mark the release of the highly-anticipated follow up to the critically-acclaimed 2020 LP Ordinary Man, Ozzy Osbourne has announced that he will be signing copies of Patient Number 9 for a one-time only event set for September 10th, just one day after the release of the Andrew Watt-produced epic.

The in-store signing embraces a bit of old school promotional flair, taking over Fingerprints Record Store in Long Beach, CA in what will be the only album signing event for the cycle. Set for 2pm PT, fans will need to pre-order their copy of the album in order to secure their spot at the event. To ensure Ozzy gets to sign as many copies as possible, organizers are nixing any other items to be signed.

To ensure the health and safety of everyone in attendance, masks will be required for all attendees and so things speed along, no photos with Ozzy will be permitted. Fans can reserve their copy of Patient Number 9 – HERE

The most recent preview of the album showcases the potency of guitarist Zakk Wylde and Ozzy as the long time tandem deliver another classic with the single, ‘Nothing Feels Right”. Stream the track and the brand new visualizer below.
