Gaerea Suffers For Their Craft In Unnerving Art Experiment Music Video

Posted by Corinne Westbrook in News on September 28, 2023

In a thrilling revelation, GAEREA announced a secret screening event to jumpstart their North American tour. Tonight’s gathering will unfold at Kuma’s Corner in Chicago, IL, and is open to all.

In a bold display of commitment to their art, a member of Portuguese black metal band Gaerea submitted himself to the ordeal of simulated drowning for the visualization of their track, “Dormant.” The result, filmed by renowned Claudio Marino – notable for collaborations with major acts like Behemoth – offers an unfiltered look into anguish and the human fight for survival. This is not your average music video; it’s a raw portrayal of the depths of human agony.

The visuals are both disturbing and evocative. As water ceaselessly pours over the protagonist, symbolizing the harrowing experiences of drowning and suffocation, the video taps into the visceral fears of viewers. Describing the concept, the band states: “Complementing the song’s aural journey, the video art installation accompanying ‘Dormant’ delves into the anguish and struggle for survival. The visuals depict the main character, trapped and enclosed in a tormenting world, as water relentlessly pours over his body, simulating drowning and suffocation. This immersive and visceral experience offers a harrowing glimpse into the protagonist’s fight for life, evoking a range of emotions and challenging viewers to confront their own mortality.”

Originally, “Dormant” was exclusively available to those who purchased the bonus-edition of the album Mirage, but now, the track and its visceral accompanying video are accessible digitally.

In a thrilling revelation, GAEREA announced a secret screening event to jumpstart their North American tour. Tonight’s gathering will unfold at Kuma’s Corner in Chicago, IL, and is open to all. Kicking off at 7:30 P.M., the event promises not just a screening but an interactive experience. Fans will have the unique opportunity to meet the band and possibly win tickets to their September 30th gig at Metro.

The band, known for its cryptic presentations, previously expressed, “This is the death of Mirage and the moment we start to let go of our world just so another one can be born. This unique event will showcase everything Gaerea has ever stood for. Get ready to witness something truly special, crafted specially to each and everyone of you who wishes to join us for an evening we shall never forget.”

For foodies attending the event at Kuma’s, there’s a special treat: the Gaerea burger. Inspired by the Francesinha sandwich from the band’s hometown of Porto, it promises a mouth-watering fusion of Kuma’s famed Slayer burger with a Portuguese twist.

Gaerea’s sound is an amalgamation of aggression, beauty, and intense emotion. Their progression is clear – they are a force, draped in mystery, yet candidly direct in their artistic pursuits. As the band journeys forward, they beckon followers of dark, intense music to pay attention.
