Ghost kicked off their co-headlining tour with Volbeat with an exciting reveal – a brand new track, “Kaisarion”. Last night was the first show of the US tour Reno Events Center in Reno, Nevada where the band played a 16 song set that also included recently released single “Hunter’s Moon” and a cover of “Enter Sandman”.

Ghost is set to release their fifth album, Impera, on March 11th via Loma Vista/Concord. The official music video for the LP’s latest single, “Call Me Little Sunshine”, was the work of iconic director Matt Mahurin and stars Ruby Modine.
According to a press release, “Impera” “finds GHOST transported literally hundreds of years forward from the 14th century Europe Black Plague era” of its previous album, 2018’s “Prequelle”. “The result is the most ambitious and lyrically incisive entry in the GHOST canon: Over the course of ‘Impera”s 12-song cycle, empires rise and fall, would-be messiahs ply their hype (financial and spiritual alike), prophecies are foretold as the skies fill with celestial bodies divine and man-made… All in all, the most current and topical GHOST subject matter to date is set against a hypnotic and darkly colorful melodic backdrop making ‘Impera’ a listen like no other — yet unmistakably, quintessentially GHOST.”

In a recent interview with KLAQ radio station, Ghost matermind Tobias Forge commented: “…I wanted to make a record about the rise and ultimately the unescapable fails and falls of empires. And an idea like that can take — at least me — quite far. So once you get that idea of, like, ‘Oh, now I know what the pile is gonna look like. I know now what not to put in there.’ And it was the same thing with [2018’s] ‘Prequelle’ [album]; it was gonna be about the great death, a medieval, primordial threat of annihilation which was, I guess I wouldn’t say carnal but maybe a tiny tad more spiritual and philosophical death, with the ever presence of actual termination, whereas this record about the empires was gonna be a little bit more practical, I guess; a little bit more, I don’t wanna say political. So it wasn’t really hard to be inspired by the last couple of years.”
In addition to the new track reveal, both frontman and Nameless Ghouls underwent a transformation for their respective looks. The Nameless Ghouls are now sporting an apocalyptic look featuring a diving helmet outfitted with two eye sockets and non-descript military style jacket. For the first half of the set, Forge performed as now-retired character Cardinal Copia before transforming into Papa Emeritus IV during “Year Zero”. Although the new Papa Emeritus was revealed in 2020, this show marked the first time the character appeared in conjunction with the new album.
