Gojira unveil their second single in “Amazonia” and launch global initiative to help preserve the Amazon rainforest

Posted by Ramon Gonzales in News on March 26, 2021

With both the track and visual exploring the the cultural and environmental importance of the Amazon, Gojira continues their activism by pledging proceeds of the track to The Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil

Asserting their rank as one of the most important bands in modern metal, Gojira has unveiled their second single from the forthcoming April 30th LP, Fortitude.

“Amazonia” instantly resonates as much more than subsequent single however, as both the track and it’s accompanying visual serve as a reverent exploration of the Amazon Rainforest and the indigenous culture that surrounds it. The Charles De Meyer-directed clip features energized segments of the band’s live performance, interspersed with footage from Brazil that underscores the deforestation crisis currently pillaging the land and people of the Amazon.

Working with multiple filmmakers in Vincent Moon, Hauxplay, Jennifer Kumiko Hayashi and Midia Ninja, “Amazonia” is an expansive, immersive, unflinching look at humanity at its best and worst summed up by Gojira’s Joe Duplantier, “The greatest miracle / Is burning to the ground.”

In an effort to galvanize the globe and combat the crisis in the Amazon, Gojira is using the release of “Amazonia” to launch a fundraising and awareness initiative benefitting  The Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB) – an organization that advocates for the environmental and cultural rights of indigenous tribes in the Amazon who have been the victims of deforestation, land loss, forced labor, violence, and harassment.

“This is a call for Unity” says Duplantier, “The music community can be powerful when united towards something meaningful like this! So many friends, great artists, bands have joined the movement without hesitation by donating instruments. This is a collective effort from so many people around us!”

In addition to pledging all proceeds from the track, Gojira has also launched a pair of charitable efforts to help raise funds for the cause. Working with Propeller, the band is curating a month long auction of collectors items from friends and contemporaries in metal. The auction currently features a Joe Duplantier signature guitar hand-engraved by Duplantier with artwork celebrating Amazonian wildlife. There are also hand-engraved Nash Guitars bass from Metallica’s bass player Robert Trujillo and his wife Chloe, a signed exclusive photo print from Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe, a limited edition Rockhard Slayer motorcycle helmet, and plenty more

Lastly, the band have released a limited edition print to benefit the APIB. The first 500 fans who purchase the print will have their names added to the final design. The exclusive prints are currently available – HERE
