The release includes the final recorded vocal performance of Oderus Urungus on the never-before heard song “Tammy, Queen of Dirt.”
The Scumdogs of the Universe have announced plans to commemorate the 10th anniversary of their 2013 full length, Battle Maximus with the release of a special extended anniversary edition of the album via Pit Records.
The album was recorded as a tribute to departed Gwar member Corey Smoot, following the musician’s tragic passing in 2011. Following Smoot’s passing, his interstellar persona Flattus Maximus was retired by the band.
The 10th anniversary edition of Battle Maximus features remixed and remastered audio of the original tracklist and includes a previously unreleased cut, “Tammy, Queen of Dirt,” is the final recorded vocal performance of Dave Brockie, AKA Oderus Urungus before his passing in 2014.
To commence the rollout of the September 1st release, GWAR has shared the remixed and remastered version of the single, “Falling” here.
Gwar guitarist BälSäc, the Jaws ‘o Death shared of the album, “10 years after its initial release, the wounds are just as fresh. The words that Oderus wrote as a tribute to his fallen Scumdog brother, Flattus Maximus, gain new meaning when heard as the final lyrics he would ever sing. The songs echo in stereo through the twin holes that were left in our hearts by the absence of Oderus and Flattus. This new remix of ‘Battle Maximus’ breathes new life into this album that demands to be considered as one of GWAR’s greatest.”
The Berserker Blothar also commented, “‘Battle Maximus’ is an important GWAR album. Recorded as a farewell to guitarist Flattus Maximus, this album was born out of straight pain. As the Scumdog warriors grieved the passing of their brother, they had no way of knowing they were also recording the last album with singer Oderus Urungus. ‘Battle Maximus’ then, is on the cusp of the greatest challenge of GWAR’s career. This version has been remixed and remastered and it sounds straight up viscous. I hope you relish it as much as I…”
Battle Maximus from Gwar arrives September 1st via Pit Records. The double vinyl features redesigned art and limited edition packaging. The physical release of the album will also be featured in several color variants all with NFTs to authenticate. Order the album – HERE
