New Flesh: Releases from Exodus, Obscura and More!

Posted by Corinne Westbrook in News on November 19, 2021

From death metal to thrash, doom to dark blues, here is the rundown of this week’s best new music.

This week saw exactly ZERO shortage of new releases. A bit of everything going on in here.

Aephanemer – A Dream Of Wilderness – Symphonic Death Metal

This album is equal parts epic and savage. It builds heavily throughout, saving the best tracks for the very end. All out shredding with an ethereal underlayer, and production that leaves a little bit of the rawness of death metal, this album is a solid venture for those looking to class up the extreme in their metal.

Exodus – Persona Non Grata

After seven long years of waiting we finally have something new from Exodus! The 11th album from the thrash metal juggernauts is everything you would want from a thrash album. Fast, energetic and savage, Persona Non Grata shows the band can overcome just about anything and crank out one hell of an album.

Khemmis – Deceiver – Doom Metal

Khemmis gave us two EPs last year and a full-length this year! Fuzzy, riff laden, harmony filled tracks fill out this six song (yes only six, classic doom) album. This is one album to listen to from beginning to end. Let it take you on a journey!

Me And That Man – New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol. 2 – Dark/Horror Blues

Haunting, folky, blues inspired darkness and an absolutely beast selection of guest artists really amp up the new offering from Me And That Man. Behemoth mastermind Nergal really pulled out all the stops with his long list of collaborators including: Myrkur, Abbath, Devin Townsend, Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe, and lots more for a wide variety of influences that will keep you moving on this!

Obscura – A Valediction – Technical Death Metal

A Valediction welcomes back former Obscura members in bassist Jeroen Paul Thesseling and guitarist Christian Münzner and a new drummer in David Diepold. The amalgamation of new and old brings a fresh approach to what we know and love from Obscura: technical guitar bombardment, breakneck rhythms, and fretless bass slides.

Swallow The Sun – Moonflowers – Melodic Death Metal

On the border of death and doom, lives Swallow the Sun. Heavy on the melancholy, this album evokes so much emotion that one simple genre wasn’t enough. Melodic and soulful, Moonflowers will carry you into the weekend (or the Swamp of Sadness).
