To ensure fans that only got to see seconds of the NFL broadcast experience the show in its entirety, Ozzy has released the two-song performance from the season opener at SoFI Stadium.
Last week, the iconic Ozzy Osbourne was invited to perform for the NFL Kickoff between The champion Los Angeles Rams and the highly touted Buffalo Bills – one of the most anticipated face-offs of the season. The performance marked Ozzy’s second live appearance in some three years. Battling health issues, the icon has had to sideline touring plans, all in addition to the pandemic pause.
In addition, the performance happened in tandem with the celebration of the release of Ozzy’s 11th studio album, Patient Number 9 – a collection of songs that features an all-star roster of contributors ranging from Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan to Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, Chris Chaney of Jane’s Addiction and even the late Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters. The album also includes guitar legends like Eric Clapton, longtime Ozzy guitarist Zakk Wylde, Jeff Beck and the timeless tandem of Ozzy and Tony Iommi, who is featured on two tracks on the project.
For those lucky enough to be in attendance at SoFI Stadium, they got to watch Ozzy blare through a concise, albeit powerful two-song set that included the title track to his new album and a rendition of “Crazy Train” which Zakk Wylde made an appearance for.
The audience watching on the national broadcast however only got to see fifteen seconds of Ozzy before cameras cut back to the NBC broadcast team for analysis of the first half of the game. It was a move that left fans both puzzled and pissed.
To give fans that missed the historic performance the chance to see the full halftime show in all it’s glory, Ozzy has released the set in full. The legendary Prince of Darkness was flanked by producer Andrew Watt on guitar, Chris Chaney on bass and Tommy Clufetos behind the drum kit. The complete performance footage also includes the energized appearance from Zakk Wylde for a massive rendition of “Crazy Train” that sent SoFi into a frenzy.
