Seven artists in the class are listed on the ballot for the very first time in their career including, Beck, Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie, Duran Duran, Carly Simon, A Tribe Called Quest and Eminem.
The 2022 class of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees has been announced and among the field of 17 accomplished artists include a healthy portion of first-time names.
Heading that subcategory of artists, Eminem tops the company of first-timers and is in the esteemed company of Dolly Parton, Duran Duran, A Tribe Called Quest, Beck, Lionel Richie, and Carly Simon.
Among the longest-running eligible names making their way back to the Rock Hall nominees include MC5 who have been able to enter since 1991 and Judas Priest who have met the criteria since 1998.
As for that baseline criteria for eligibility, the Rock Hall says, “To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination” The Rock Hall also stipulates, “Factors such as an artist’s musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and the body of work, innovation, and superiority in style and technique are taken into consideration.”
Starting February 2nd and running through April 29th, fans will have the opportunity to cast their ballot to decide who they want to see inducted in this year’s field. That collective vote will determine a field of five fan favorites that will also be presented to the voting committee of the Rock Hall. Fans can submit their vote – HERE
