Despite some major cancelations, the massive East Coast hard rock gathering continues to boast an impressive line up that features Disturbed, Metallica and now Slipknot at top of the marquee.
Last week the news hit the wire that both Nine Inch Nails and Deftones would be cancelling their remaining 2021 show dates, including confirmed appearances at a host of different festivals.
Among those cancellations was the highly-anticipated performance at Welcome to Rockville slated in November at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, FL. Losing both Deftones and Nine Inch Nails was hefty blow to the line-up, yet despite some incredible odds, festival producer Danny Wimmer Presents has managed to pull of an impressive pivot.
The festival announced this morning that Slipknot will now serve as the gathering’s Thursday night headliner. The masked nine will join Disturbed and the two-night, two set engagement of Metallica as Rockville’s biggest draws. Adding some additional horse power to the Thursday night kick off however, both A Day to Remember and Gojira will also deliver performances on November 11th.
Company namesake Danny WImmer spoke candidly about the hectic week and the relief in being able to announce the additions of such heavyweight names to the line up. “I want to say a massive thank you to Slipknot, A Day To Remember AND Gojira for immediately stepping in when we called them last week on such short notice. The last few weeks have been a wild ride, but these bands made it clear how much they want to be out there playing for their fans and will be ready to take the stage. We also talked to Metallica last week, who have confirmed their excitement to play Welcome To Rockville in November. The road is going to be bumpy, but the team at DWP is undeterred and will continue to adapt to any road blocks. We are committed to putting on the rock reunion we’ve all been waiting for. Keep On Keeping On.”
The 2021 edition of the hard rock and metal destination is especially significant this year as the festival not only expands to a four-day event but also moves into new digs at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, FL. Billed as the biggest version of the festival yet, the ongoing threat of the pandemic has forced producers to be on their toes, yet have managed to adjust to each situation thus far – the most recent cancellations included.
