Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters has died

The band confirmed the news with a statement while out on tour in South America.

The charismatic, always energetic drummer for Foo Fighters, Taylor Hawkins has tragically passed away at the age of 50. The news was confirmed by a statement issued from the Foo Fighters via their social media. The band is currently on tour in South America and was scheduled to perform in Bogota, Columbia on Friday March 25th.

The statement from the band read, “The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live with us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children, and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.

Hawkins had become a mainstay with the Foos since his arrival in 1997 following the band’s The Colour and the Shape release. The musician rose to his rank as a touring drummer for Alanis Morrissette. Hawkins would take over for Foo Fighters’ initial drummer, William Goldsmith.

Hawkins would go on to contribute to eight full length studio albums starting with There Is Nothing Left to Lose and concluding with Foo FIghters’ most recent effort, Medicine At Midnight. He would also contribute to the rock music landscape with his various other projects including Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders as well as Chevy Metal. He has also collaborated with the likes of Brian May of Queen, Slash of Guns N Roses, and Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers just to name a few.

There has been no cause of death disclosed at this time.
