While My Chemical Romance was initially slated to headline the Saturday night of the mega-festival, the postponing of their reunion tour until 2022 left a big hole to fill.
Arguably the most anticipated rock festival of the 2021 concert calendar, Aftershock has been a slumbering Goliath of a show since it’s initial 2020 announcement. With headliners including both Metallica and a reunited My Chemical Romance, tickets for the event have long been sold out even with postponements in the wake of continued Covid-19 restrictions.
Though the festival has had to make adjustments a couple of times, the biggest adjustment came with the announcement that the festival would no longer have My Chemical Romance as it’s Saturday top billing. Opting to push their reunion tour back to 2022, Aftershock was faced with the reality of having to replace one of the festival’s biggest draws.
The disappointment of losing My Chemical Romance was quickly swapped out for the pure elation that came with the news of when was confirmed to now helm Saturday night’s headlining duties. The Original Misfits, in Glenn Danzig, Jerry Only, and Doyle, will be joined by former Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo and guitarist Acey Slade will now be sandwiched between two nights of Metallica.
Among the additional artists being brought on for the now four day festival include, Dropkick Murphys, Anti-Flag, In This Moment, August Burns Red, Black Map, Blame My, Youth, All Good Things, Tempt, and Oxymorrons.
The bad news is that the festival is sold out. Those who purchased single-day tickets for the Saturday installment of the festival are encouraged to check their email inbox to explore what options are available to them.
