Watch Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson square up in a battle of alien symbiotes that will make for quite the big screen spectacle.
The wait is over as Marvel has debuted the first official look at the sequel to 2018’s ‘Venom’ with the release of the trailer for ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’.
The sequel features the return of Tom Hardy reprising his role as Eddie Brock, the human host to the alien symbiote that is Venom in what seems to be an amicable living situation. Helmed by director Andy Serkis who picks up the reigns from the film’s first visionary Ruben Fleischer, the second installment of the film centers on villainous serial killer Cletus Kasady, played by a maniacal Woody Harrelson. For this segment of the saga, Kasady survives an execution by lethal injection and ultimately develops a symbiote of his own in Carnage which eventually leads to a showdown of epic proportions.
‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage boats an ensemble cast featuring Michelle Williams as Anne Weying, Reid Scott as Dan Lewis and Naomie Harris as Shriek. The film features a screenplay from Kelly Marcel and brings back Ruben Fleischer in the role as executive producer – smart given that the first installment of the franchise raked in nearly a billion dollars in revenue globally.
It is also worth noting that the film is from Sony Picture Studios and not the Kevin Feige’s Marvel Studios, which is responsible for every major live-action Marvel film that has made the brand such a presence at the box office. Though Venom plays an integral part in the Spider Man universe, the anticipated crossover that usually permeates in various storylines from different Marvel-related films doesn’t seem to happen here – with no presence of any iteration of Spider Man being showcased in the trailer.
It is also important to note that while the model for major cinematic releases in 2021 has been a simultaneous release, both theatric and direct to streaming, ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ will only be released in theaters. The film arrives on the big screen September 24th.
