Standouts of an emerging new generation of death metal practitioners, Venom Prison punctuate their charge throughout 2020 with the announcement of a new record deal.
Among a small crop of artists that have been able to make impressive strides during the stagnation that has marred 2020, UK death metal outfit Venom Prison are closing out a pivotal year with the news of a auspicious record deal with Century Media.
First garnering acclaim with their 2016 debut Animus, followed by the impact of their 2019 sophomore LP, Samsara, the band established themselves as a bonafide sensation within the genre. Combining the requisite brutality of the genre with a sense of greater awareness, the band integrated real life horrors and afflictions, rather that indulge familiar thematic stereotypes.
“VENOM PRISON is an important band in every sense of the word,” says Century Media A&R Mike Gitter. “They are a wakeup call with songs that are not just musically brutal, but dig into issues that challenge our day-to-day existence. Gender issues. Cultural and political oppression. They’re relevant in ways that so many bands fall short of. VENOM PRISON is the band we need now more than ever.”
Again asserting their rank in the hierarchy of the category, Venom Prison refined their collection of previously released EP in Defy the Tyrant and The Primal Chaos with their most recent offering, Primeval. A testament to the enduring quality of their craft, the LP felt as relevant as ever, underscored by the inclusion of two new cuts in “Slayer of Holofernes” and “Defiant to the Will of God”.
While a compilation of rehashed EP selections would have likely been nothing more than a way to pacify die-hard fans, the release translated with the same excitement and exuberant reception of an all new album. Venom Prison certainly has the hype and their body of work clearly suggests they have the goods to back it.
Arriving at the end of a tumultuous 2020, the forecast for the Welsh/Russian outfit looks promising. “We are proud to announce that VENOM PRISON has signed with Century Media Records for a worldwide deal. This deal marks the beginning of a new chapter for VENOM PRISON and we are honoured to call Century Media our home, which we look forward sharing with some of the most iconic artists in heavy metal, as well many of our talented friends,” the band said in a prepared statement.
The announcement was coupled with the reminder that the band is currently hard at work on their third full-length studio LP.
