Industrial authority Cold Waves Festival goes digital with ‘The Lost Weekend’

Posted by Ramon Gonzales in Performances on September 12, 2020

The Twitch broadcast will feature Meat Beat Manifesto as well as current and former members of Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, Front 242, and Revolting Cocks among others.

The annual industrial pilgrimage in Chicago’s famed Cold Waves Festival is making the pivot to a digital footprint for this year’s installment.

Curating three evenings of programming spanning September 18 through the 20th billed as ‘The Lost Weekend,’ festival organizers will stream live performances from Meat Beat Manifesto as well as current and former members of Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, Front 242, and Revolting Cocks among many others.

The original festival line-up, which was initially scheduled for the same weekend, was set to feature headlining performances from Front 242, Stabbing Westward and My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult. Capacity restrictions and COVID-19 travel restrictions would eventually force producers to reschedule to 2021.

To ensure the show somehow still goes on, ‘The Last Weekend’ will begin streaming on Twitch at 7pm CT nightly and will kickoff on the 18th by revisiting the very first Cold Waves Festival from back in 2012, in its entirety.

The 19th will offer performances from Meat Beat Manifesto, DHS, Ash. Code and Cyanotic, as well as unearthed performances from The Young Gods, Front Line Assembly, Test Dept, Chemlab, and more.

The stream will also include classic industrial music videos with commentary from Richard 23 and Patrick Codenys (Front 242), Paul Barker (Ministry), Chris Connelly (The Revolting Cocks), Martin Atkins (Killing Joke), and Chris Vrenna (Nine Inch Nails).

Closing out the weekend’s ceremonies will be the premiere stream of the film Last Call 2350: The Neo Documentary.

The detailed, hourly schedule will be posted to the Cold Waves site September 17th. Programming begins broadcasting via the Cold Waves Twitch channel starting at 7pm CT.

Lastly, coinciding with the digital festival, Cold Waves is also releasing an exclusive, limited edition compilation compiling tracks from festival alumni. The collection showcases including a cover of The Cure’s hit “Burn” (from The Crow soundtrack) done by Stabbing Westward plus selections from Godflesh, Meat Beat Manifesto, The Young Gods, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Cubanate, Assemblage 23, Caustic, Ash Code, Cyanotic, Test Dept, Bile and more.

The download and CD proceeds will be donated to a GoFundMe benefitting the staff of Metro Chicago as well as the suicide prevention and awareness charity Darkest Before Dawn. A donation button will also be available throughout the streaming activities for those that wish to donate further.
