The band performed a cover of Power Trip’s “Executioner’s Tax (Swing Of The Axe)” in Gale’s memory.
On August 24th, the metal world lost a promising voice in Riley Gale. At just 34 years old, the frontman for crossover thrash band Power Trip had cemented himself as an articulately outspoken performer and a universally admired human being.
Honoring his memory and cultural impact, Trivium took the opportunity to pay tribute to Gale during their ‘Deepest Cuts’ streaming event over the weekend.
Towards the latter third of their set of rarely-performed Trivium selections, frontman Matt Heafy recalled Trivium’s touring history with Power Trip and his fond experiences with Gale.
Heafy commented on Power Trip and Gale’s legacy, “Riley will be greatly missed. Everyone remembers him as being an undeniably incredible frontman which he was with a voice that sounded like no one else. I think Power Trip was doing something very different that other people weren’t doing and it was amazing they were able to bring so many fans of so many different genres into one band. So we want to pay tribute here and play a little song, we hope we do it a little bit of justice.”
Heafy and the guys in Trivium begin their tribute to gale at about the 1:26:00 mark in the complete performance video below. You can also find the band’s entire set list from their ‘Deepest Cuts’ performance after the video.
