The Melbourne outfit bridges stoner rock and grunge to explore the heavy side of psychedelia.
Melbourne-based stoner rock outfit Foot generate a funky and powerful dry sound, often drifting into the more grunge arena of rock, squarely bringing together contemporary and vintage. You Are Weightless opens with a classic, head-bopping drum beat before the melodic-guitars kick in. Synthesizers are layered in the background with dreamy vocals on top.
The album progresses through crunchier, rhythmic moments, giving it bite without losing the fun, feel-good nature of the genre. Flowing between psychedelic, stoner and even pop influences, Foot keep things familiar enough to be easily immersed and fresh enough to remain intrigued. The thick riffs and meaty bass lines throughout give the album enough of an edge for those looking to get a little bit heavier than your average stoner band.
“Caged Animal” is one of the highlights of the album, flipping from substantial bass lines and grungy riffs to ethereal synth and trippy sonic vibes. “Fire Dance” is where things get the heaviest, taking the album in a completely different direction before bringing it back to all the fuzz you could ever want.
Masterminded by guitarist and vocalist Paul Holden, whose other band members change on a regular basis, You Are Weightless was released today, June 10th. You can get your copy HERE.
