Hailing from Slovakia, Besna play a variety of epically progressive post-black metal that is artful and hauntingly beautiful. The emotional intensity of this album is not for the faint of heart, but devastating your soul it totally worth giving this a spin.
The album opens with the peaceful sound of a rushing river and somber notes that lulls you into a false sense of security before absolutely ravaging vocals and heavy instrumentation take over. The tortured vocals inspire an immediate emotional reaction, the pain they hold is downright visceral.
And that is fitting given the content of the album dealing with everything from human tragedies to climate change to the dystopian nature of the world. This is the soundtrack to watching the world collapse.
This album touches on several musical elements with progressive and melodic guitar work combined, synths, rhythmic drumming and acoustic elements for an expertly layered sound. The production is top notch and serves the somber nature of the album.
Even though this album is one of those ones that “hurts”, it is cathartic and beautiful. Zverstvá was released on March 11th and you can pick up your copy HERE.
