Knotfest’s own Cori Westbrook highlights German modern metalists that indulge a hint of nu-metal aggression.

Germany-based modern metal outfit Shockgnosis’ album Be Chaos ::: Be God, is a testament to versatility in the modern metal era. Be Chaos ::: Be God Rife is rife with exceptional instrumentation, offering a range of harmonies, melodies, heavy riffs and face-melting solos! The drumming isn’t solely reliant on blast beats, but also incorporates more rhythmic elements. The “Year of the Bass” as we call it on Pulse of the Maggots, continues this year with solid thunderous bass with an amazing tone, and the guttural vocals are pure passion, with the addition of whispers to add another layer.
Shockgnosis’ use of electronic elements further add to the modern feel of the album and really offset the groove throughout. Not overdone and nicely punchy, they add to the mix rather than feeling forced or tacked on. Be Chaos ::: Be God is a mix of powerful drums and groovy guitar riffs, refined with a concentrated load of Nu Metal nostalgia.
Also, I want to shout out this album artwork. The coloring and futuristic use of what can be an overplayed hand, the skull motif, really catches the eye!
Be Chaos ::: Be God formed in 2009 and has released two previous albums, Startup Sequence and Of Tyrants and Martyrs. Be Chaos ::: Be God was released on October 29, 2021 and you can pick up your copy HERE.
