Jake Luhrs of August Burns Red translates the power of conviction on Mosh Talks

The frontman for August Burns Red explains the message behind the band’s music during a time when the world needs it most.

Ahead of the band’s appearance via the Knotfest streaming concert series, Jake Luhrs of August Burns Red checked in for a conversation on Mosh Talks.

Among the takeaways from the loaded discussion included an examination of how the band has championed positivity in their music.

Touching on the current climate of divisiveness and uncertainty, Luhrs explained that while the band never could’ve predicted what has happened in the months since their latest release, GUARDIANS, the themes of the record remain applicable and frankly, necessary for such a fractured world.

Reiterating the motivation and conviction at the core of August Burns Red, Luhrs explained,”I don’t just be a guy in a band. I wanna be a human being that cares about other human beings.” It’s a sentiment that seems to permeate throughout the band.

Luhrs would go on to detail the ongoing creative evolution of ABR as well, acknowledging that while there are many bands they admire and respect, their ultimate goal is to be leaders of the genre, not followers of the genre.

Eight records and 15 years deep, the band’s continued success is a product of their ability to collaborate. Luhrs would further explain that the creative process of August Burns Red is steeped in genuine conviction and a real desire to challenge the conventions of the genre.

Brimming with positivity about the community of fans, the status of August Burns Red, and the output of contemporaries like Fit For A King, Code Orange, and Polaris, to name a few, Jake Luhrs translates the kind of optimism the world is dire need of right now.
