Posted by Ramon Gonzales in Mosh Talks on August 18, 2020

Vocalist Ryan Kirby is not shy about discussing his love for death and metalcore music.

As the vocalist for Fit For A King, Ryan Kirby make no bares bones about being a fan first.

In his recent feature on the KNOTFEST interview series Mosh Talks, the frontman articulated his love for heavier contemporaries like The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, The Acacia Strain, and Impeding Doom.

While Kirby acknowledges that Fit For A King’s lane is different, he confides that his connection with those types of bands runs deep and always will.

Discussing the nuances of deathcore, metalcore and the various subgenera within metalcore itself, Kirby’s affinity for the art is augmented by his love of the fans. Referring to the commitment that the fans have for the bands they love as “unparalleled,” Kirby recounted a story that reiterated why underground music is so important to him.

“There’s a story of a guy who didn’t wanna take off his Silent Planet shirt for the medic after he broke his collar bone and they had to break his collar bone further because he didn’t wanna take off his shirt. And I’m like, ‘go find a Kanye West fan that’s like, don’t cut my shirt.'”

Aside from his kinship with the metalcore community, Kirby offered some insight to Fit For A King’s full length release, The Path, set for September 18th via Solid State Records. Kirby explained that some of the songs were written with the intent of incorporating pyrotechnics into the live translation, which offers a very clear indication of the direction of at least some of the record.
