The long-awaited film adaptation will be released on theaters and Peacock just in time for this Halloween
It was inevitable that we would get a movie adaptation of the famous Five Nights at Freddy’s video game franchise, and the time is now finally upon us.
The horror survival games have taken over the world thanks to their terrifying animatronic characters and simple and accessible gameplay. Even tons of younger children have been captivated by the games, jump scares and all. The franchise has evolved into its own expansive universe with spin-offs and novels and beyond – not to mention a staggering amount of sold merchandise.
After years of being stuck in early development and going through various writers and directors including Chris Columbus, a movie version of Five Nights at Freddy’s is officially set to hit the big screen just in time for Halloween. Directed by Emma Tammi (who appeared on the horror scene with 2018’s The Wind) and written by franchise creator Scott Cawthon, the film is set to release on October 27th of this year. It will also begin streaming on Peacock the same day.
Modern horror movie masters Blumhouse Productions are behind the film, so it certainly appears that the franchise is in good hands. Josh Hutcherson will star as Mike Schmidt, the unlucky security guard who works at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The cast also includes horror favorite Matthew Lillard as well as Mary Stuart Masterson, Piper Rubio, Kat Connor Sterling and Elizabeth Lail. The famous Jim Henson’s Creature Shop will be handling the designs and creation of the killer animatronics.
