Ghostface Takes Manhattan in the First Trailer for ‘Scream VI’

Posted by Nicolás Delgadillo in Culture on December 18, 2022

The Woodsboro crew moves to New York City in the upcoming sixth film of the meta slasher series

Creating a new Scream movie without the legendary Wes Craven at the helm was always going to be an incredibly challenging prospect. The iconic horror filmmaker changed the horror genre forever with his 1996 meta slasher and continued to stay a step ahead of the competition with each consecutive sequel. 2011’s Scream 4 was Craven’s final film before his passing, which ended the franchise on a clever and eerily prescient take on murder in the social media age.

So when a fifth film that would bring back the original cast was announced, fans were rightfully skeptical. But the dynamic directing duo of Matt Bettineli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not) proved to be suitable successors for the landmark horror franchise, upping the intensity of both the scares and the violence. The movie delivered some of the most intense and brutal sequences of the entire franchise while also adhering to the old rule of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” for its plot.

Because of their tremendous success with that revival film, both directors as well as the new cast of Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding are all returning for the upcoming Scream VI. Neve Campbell sadly won’t be back this time around but Courtney Cox will, and in an even more surprising and exciting move, none other than Scream 4’s Hayden Panettiere will be making an appearance as well.

Paramount Pictures has finally dropped the first trailer along with a release date of March 10th of next year. It looks like we’ll finally be leaving Woodsboro behind as the survivors of the last film try to start anew in New York City. But of course, yet another Ghostface killer is on the loose and danger rears its ugly head towards our heroes once again. ‘Scream VI’ slashes into theaters on March 10th, 2023.
