Happy New Year to all you maggots and freaks out there! Here’s everything exciting on streaming to end 2022 on a high note

NOW STREAMING:

‘White Noise’ (Netflix)

Based on the 1985 novel by Don DeLillo, White Noise is an apocalypse tale with a healthy dose of black comedy. Directed by Noah Baumbach and at once hilarious and horrifying, lyrical and absurd, ordinary and apocalyptic, White Noise dramatizes a contemporary American family’s attempts to deal with the mundane conflicts of everyday life while grappling with the universal mysteries of love, death and the possibility of happiness in an uncertain world. Jack Gladney (Adam Driver), professor of Hitler studies at the College-on-the-Hill, husband to Babette (Greta Gerwig) and father to four children/stepchildren, is torn asunder by “the Airborne Toxic Event,” a cataclysmic train accident that casts chemical waste over his town.

‘This Place Rules’ (HBO Max)

As one of the best-known and hardest working journalists of his generation, the 25-year-old Andrew Callaghan ventures on a wild RV journey through America to take the pulse of a divided nation. In 2020, as COVID rages, protests sweep the country, and a monumental election looms, Callaghan captures the chaos in the streets and a wide spectrum of views — with just a camera and a microphone. Delving into a world of political division, white nationalist groups and conspiracy theorists, This Place Rules exposes the perfect storm in the months preceding the Capitol attack and serves as a stark warning that these forces show no sign of abating.

In an explosive climax, Jess must decide which one to help-and which one she must destroy.
