The return of Boba Fett, Letterkenny, Cobra Kai, Young Justice and plenty of originals end the year

OUT NOW:

‘The Book of Boba Fett’ (Disney+)

With Boba Fett officially back in Star Wars thanks to The Mandalorian, the legendary bounty hunter (with Temuera Morrison reprising the role) has now received his own spin-off series. Along with mercenary Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), The Book of Boba Feet has the two navigating the galaxy’s underworld when they return to the sands of Tatooine to stake their claim on the territory once ruled by Jabba the Hutt and his crime syndicate. Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Robert Rodriguez, Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson are the executive producers. Karen Gilchrist and Carrie Beck serve as co-executive producers, with John Bartnicki producing and John Hampian as co-producer.

‘Cobra Kai (Season 4)’ (Netflix)

The hit Netflix series takes place over 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament with the continuation of the inescapable conflict between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). Season 4 finds the Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang dojos joining forces to take down Cobra Kai at the All Valley Under 18 Karate Tournament… and whoever loses must hang up their gi. As Samantha and Miguel try to maintain the dojo alliance and Robby goes all in at Cobra Kai, the fate of the Valley has never been more precarious. What tricks does Kreese have up his sleeve? Can Daniel and Johnny bury their decades-long hatchet to defeat Kreese? Or will Cobra Kai become the face of karate in the valley?

‘Letterkenny (Season 10)’ (Hulu)

The residents of Letterkenny belong to one of three groups: the Hicks, the Skids, and the Hockey Players, who are constantly feuding with each other over seemingly trivial matters that often end with someone getting their ass kicked. In season 10, McMurray and Wayne do some dickering, the Hicks attend a sausage party, the Hockey Players and Skids have a video game battle, the men of Letterkenny receive head-to-toe physicals…and that’s just for starters, buddy.

‘Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer’ (Netflix)

Seemingly random acts of brutality shock even the most seasoned NYC homicide detectives, stoking fears of an elusive serial killer operating within 1970’s era Times Square, a near-lawless sexual playground where forbidden fantasies were fulfilled, including murder.

‘Young Justice: Phantoms’ (HBO Max)

Criminally underrated DC superhero series Young Justice returns with a fourth season and a brand new home at HBO Max. It’s divided into four part arcs focused on specific team members from season 1, with a background focus hinting that the Legion of Super-Heroes will also play a part in the story. However, as each Team member deals with their plots, a traumatized Beast Boy becomes depressed from Superboy’s presumed death on Mars.

‘The Lost Daughter’ (Netflix)

Written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Lost Daughter is a psychological drama about a woman’s beach vacation that takes a dark turn when her obsession with a young mother forces her to confront the secrets of her past. With an incredible performance from Olivia Coleman and a superb direction from Gyllenhaal, it’s one of the most essentials dramas of the year.

‘Stay Close’ (Netflix)

When Carlton Flynn vanishes 17 years to the night after Stewart Green did, it sets off a chain reaction in the lives of people connected to both men. Four people, dark secrets, and a past that threatens their lives. Stay Close is the gripping new thriller from Harlan Coben (The Stranger, Safe, The Five) which questions how much you really know someone. It stars Cush Jumbo, James Nesbitt, Richard Armitage and Sarah Parish.

‘Anxious People’ (Netflix)

A bank robber holds the visitors of an open house hostage and then promptly vanishes, leaving the police baffled — and suspicious of everyone. 8 hostages at an open house, 2 dysfunctional police officers trying to solve the case and 1 bank robber that mysteriously vanishes. Anxious People is based on the New York Times bestseller by Fredrik Backman.
