A new Star Trek series arrives as well as crime thrillers and horror galore on streaming this week

‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ (Paramount+)
Paramount+ continues its all-in approach to the Star Trek universe with yet another series to add the franchise. This latest is based on the years Captain Christopher Pike manned the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The series will feature fan favorites from season two of Star Trek: Discovery. Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. The series will follow Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock and Number One in the years before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy.
‘Hatching’ (Hulu)
Tinja (Siiri Solalinna) is a 12-year-old gymnast who’s desperate to please her image-obsessed mother (Sophia Heikkila). After finding a wounded bird in the woods, she brings its strange egg home, nestles it in her bed and nurtures it until it hatches. The creature that emerges soon becomes her closest friend and a living nightmare, plunging Tinja into a twisted reality that her mom refuses to see. This strange dose of Finnish horror has been a surprising hit thus far.
‘The Twin’ (Shudder)
Following the aftermath of a tragic accident that claimed the life of one of their twins, Rachel (Teresa Palmer) and husband Anthony (Steven Cree) relocate to the other side of the world with their surviving son in the hopes of building a new life. What begins as a time of healing in the quiet Scandinavian countryside soon takes an ominous turn when Rachel begins to unravel the torturous truth about her son and confronts the malicious forces attempting to take a hold of him.
‘Clark’ (Netflix)
Based on the truth and lies of Clark Olofsson’s autobiography, the Swedish language series will feature Clark’s early years until present day. The notorious gangster started his criminal career in the 1960s and became one of the most controversial personalities in contemporary Swedish history. Convicted of several counts of drug trafficking, attempted murder, assault, theft and dozens of bank robberies, he has spent more than half his life behind bars and has left behind a trail of trauma, heartbreak, disappointment and general devastation. In the 1970s Clark gave rise to the idea of “The Stockholm Syndrome” during a failed bank robbery in Stockholm and has ever since kept his position as celebrity criminal fooling all of Sweden to fall in love with him. ‘Eli Roth’s History of Horror (Season 3)’ (Shudder)
Eli Roth explores horror’s biggest themes and reveals the inspirations and struggles behind its past and present. Episodes feature A-list storytellers like Stephen King, Quentin Tarantino, Jordan Peele, Jason Blum, Robert Englund, Linda Blair, Rob Zombie, Jack Black, John Landis and Jamie Lee Curtis, who discuss how horror has evolved through the years and impacted society, as well as how the genre maintains its fan base and why audiences are addicted to fear.
‘Tehran (Season 2)’ (Apple TV+)
Tamar (Niv Sultan) is a Mossad hacker-agent who infiltrates Tehran under a false identity to help destroy Iran’s nuclear reactor. But when the mission fails and she’s trapped in a new life, Tamar must plan an operation that will place everyone dear to her in jeopardy. Glenn Close joins the second season.
‘Last Survivors’ (Hulu)
Last Survivors takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where Troy (Stephen Moyer) raises his now grown son, Jake (Drew Van Acker), in a perfect wooded utopia thousands of miles away from the decayed cities. When Troy is severely wounded, Jake is forced to travel to the outside world to find life-saving medicine. Ordered to kill anyone he encounters, Jake defies his father by engaging in a forbidden relationship with a mysterious woman, Henrietta (Alicia Silverstone). As Jake continues this dangerous affair, Troy will stop at nothing to get rid of Henrietta and protect the perfect utopia he created.
‘The Pentaverate’ (Netflix)
After influencing global events for centuries, a secret society faces a dangerous threat from within. Can a Canadian reporter save them – and the world? From the mind of Mike Myers and starring Ken Jeong, Keegan-Michael Key, Debi Mazar, Richard McCabe, Jennifer Saunders and Lydia West.
‘Broadcast Signal Intrusion’ (Shudder)
For three years, James (Harry Shum Jr.) has been haunted by his wife’s sudden and inexplicable disappearance. His best distraction is work-specifically, archiving old videos. While watching decade-aged TV news footage one night, he sees a video interference that’s deeply disturbing. And it’s not the only interference he’ll see. As his obsession over these strange clips increases, and he submerges himself into their mysteries, James discovers troubling connections to his missing wife. Which will these broadcast intrusions bring him, though: long-desired answers or a never-ending nightmare?
‘Hold Your Breath: The Ice Dive’ (Netflix)
Follow free diver Johanna Nordblad in this documentary as she attempts to break the world record for distance traveled under ice with one breath. Probably not for the faint of heart or the claustrophobic.

‘Moon Knight’ (Disney+)
This latest Marvel series follows Steven Grant (Oscar Isaac), a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. ‘The Girl from Plainville’ (Hulu)
Inspired by the deeply troubling true story of Michelle Carter’s unprecedented “texting-suicide” case, this limited series explores Carter’s (Elle Fanning) relationship with Conrad Roy III (Colton Ryan) and the events that led to his death and, later, her conviction of involuntary manslaughter. ‘We Own This City’ (HBO Max)
A miniseries exploring the deep systemic corruption inherent in law enforcement, We Own This City details the rise and fall of the Baltimore Police Department’s Gun Trace Task Force. ‘The Baby’ (HBO Max)
The new limited series blends horror and comedy in a surrealist study on motherhood.
