‘Ms. Marvel’ (Disney+)

The latest Disney+ series to come from the mighty Marvel universe focuses on one of the comics’ newest heroes. Kamala (Iman Vellani) is a superhero fan with an imagination, particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel; Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home, that is until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s looked up to. The coming-of-age story is likely to pay off big in future installments for the MCU.

‘Peaky Blinders (Season 6)’ (Netflix)

The beloved BBC / Netflix series following the exploits of Birmingham’s most renowned 20th century gang has finally returned for its final season. Season 6 sees Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and the surviving members of his family and crew face off against the rising threat of fascists and the Nazi party in a thrilling, tragic, and explosive end to the acclaimed crime drama. A conclusive movie will also be coming to cap off the show.

‘Irma Vep’ (HBO Max)

Mira (Alicia Vikander) is an American movie star disillusioned by her career and a recent breakup, who comes to France to star as “Irma Vep” in a remake of the French silent film classic, “Les Vampires.” Set against the backdrop of a lurid crime thriller, Mira struggles as the distinctions between herself and the character she plays begin to blur and merge.

‘Offseason’ (Shudder)

Writer-director Mickey Keating’s horror film Offseason follows Marie (Jocelin Donahue), a woman who, upon receiving a mysterious letter that her mother’s grave site has been vandalized, quickly returns to the isolated offshore island where her late mother is buried. When she arrives, she discovers that the island is closing for the offseason with the bridges raised until spring, leaving her stranded. One strange interaction with the local townspeople after another, Marie soon realizes that something is not quite right in this small town. She must unveil the mystery behind her mother’s troubled past in order to make it out alive.

‘Hustle’ (Netflix)

After discovering a once-in-a-lifetime player with a rocky past abroad, a down on his luck basketball scout (Adam Sandler) takes it upon himself to bring the phenom to the States from Spain without his team’s approval. Against the odds, they have one final shot to prove they have what it takes to make it in the NBA. Sandler is back once again for a slightly more dramatic role than usual, which should please fans of the comedic legend.

‘Between Me and My Mind’ (Hulu)

Driven by a constant need to create, Phish frontman Trey Anastasio takes on new projects, including some of his most personal music to date as well as Phish’s ambitious New Year’s Eve show at Madison Square Garden.

‘The Card Counter’ (HBO Max)

Paul Schrader made a name for himself co-writing four of Martin Scorsese’s films – Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Last Temptation of Christ, & Bringing Out the Dead – and has directed nearly two dozen films himself, but didn’t receive Academy Award recognition until 2017 with the quietly powerful First Reformed. His latest film and first one in four years is The Card Counter, the story of an ex-military interrogator turned gambler (played by Oscar Isaac) who is haunted by the ghosts of his past decisions. The film is executive produced by Scorsese and also stars Tiffany Haddish, Tye Sheridan, and Willem Dafoe.

‘Queens of Pain’ (Hulu)

Three women at different stages of life – Suzy Hotrod, Evilicious, and Captain Smack Sparrow – struggle to balance their lives in New York City with the dedication and stamina needed to maintain their place on the world’s best roller derby team.

‘For All Mankind (Season 3)’ (Apple TV+)

For All Mankind is a sprawling story that began with a provocative premise: What if the Russians landed on the moon first, before Americans? The space race never ended and the two Cold War foes only ramped up the competition to colonize the moon and beyond. Season 3 jumps ahead in this alternate history into the 90s, where Americans, Soviets, and a mysterious private company are all tussling over the future of mankind on Mars.

‘Indemnity’ (Hulu)

An ex-firefighter (Jarrid Geduld) in Cape Town is forced to fight for his life after being accused of murdering his wife. As he struggles to survive, connections are revealed between his past, the origin of his PTSD, the mysterious death of his wife, and a government conspiracy with terrifying implications.

‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ (Paramount+)

Paramount+ continues its all-in approach to the Star Trek universe with yet another series to add the franchise. This latest is based on the years Captain Christopher Pike manned the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The series will feature fan favorites from season two of Star Trek: Discovery. Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One and Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock. The series will follow Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock and Number One in the years before Captain Kirk boarded the U.S.S. Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy. The first six episodes are now streaming.

‘Tehran (Season 2)’ (Apple TV+)

Tamar (Niv Sultan) is a Mossad hacker-agent who infiltrates Tehran under a false identity to help destroy Iran’s nuclear reactor. But when the mission fails and she’s trapped in a new life, Tamar must plan an operation that will place everyone dear to her in jeopardy. Glenn Close joins the second season. ‘The Baby’ (HBO Max)

The new limited series blends horror and comedy in a surrealist study on motherhood. When a controlling baby with violent powers mysteriously lands in Natasha’s (Michelle de Swarte) lap, she must figure out how to wrestle her life back: She doesn’t want a baby. The baby wants her. ‘Barry (Season 3)’ (HBO Max)

Desperate to leave his violent past behind in favor of his newfound passion, Barry (Hader) is attempting to untangle himself from the world of contract killing and fully immerse himself in acting. ‘The Offer’ (Paramount+)

This biographical dramatic miniseries tells the true story of producer Al Ruddy’s (Miles Teller) experience of making the 1972 film The Godfather with Francis Ford Coppola. From development to production, the series lays out the process of creating one of the greatest films of all time. The first nine episodes are now streaming with the finale arriving next week.

‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ (Disney+)

The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. The series stars Ewan McGregor, reprising his role as the iconic Jedi Master, and also marks the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader. The first four episodes are now streaming.

‘The Orville: New Horizons’ (Hulu)

Seth McFarlane’s sci-fi series finally returns with a move to Hulu just in time for its third season. Set 400 years in the future, New Horizons finds the crew of the U.S.S. Orville continuing their mission of exploration, as they navigate both the mysteries of the universe and the complexities of their own interpersonal relationships.
